Off to Fairbanks and a visit to a dog sled home

A visit to Jeff Kings' Husky Homestead. He is a 4 time winner of the Iditarod. The last one in 2006.

The off season training of the dogs is done with them pulling a quad runner. They literally jump for the chance to be the ones on the training team.

On the return of the training run they cool off in a pool of water.

This is the suit Jeff King will wear in the next running of the race.
The dogs all have their own house and water in front for cooling off. They actually prefer cold weather and are given water holes to cool off in.
This is some of the new puppies that will be trained. The best of the litters will be the ones that do the racing. They start with 16-20 dogs and have to end with at least 8 or 10 dogs. The ones that do not make it are flown home. There wer 10-15 puppies at the time we were there.

This puppy ran in the drum for the hour we were listening to the speaker. He would get off long enough to get a drink and then right back on the wheel.

This is one of the lead dogs. They are given a lot of love and attention as they respond better in the races.
