passing through W VA, - VA, and TN

A view down the Cumberland River

Once again we arrived in the rain. Is it following us or are we chasing it?

We added Tennessee to our map.

A view of the Cheasapeake Bay as we explore the area.

Looking across the James River before driving under it.

This is the entrance to the bridge/tunnel under the James River.

Exit from the tunnel under the James River. The bridge and Tunnel are about 5 1/2 miles with about 1 1/2 under water.

Virginia countryside. The road out of town.

Appears the road disappears -- but it is just very hilly and beautiful.

going south (currently in PA again)

Water gardens of Longwood Gardens. The water show plays several times a day and is accompanied by the music of the bell tower.

A sample of the Longwood Gardens orchid display.

One of the unique gardens here was the Topiary Gardens. More than 50 specimens in 20 different shapes.

Cooling tanks on 3 mile island. We discovered it was only 2 miles from our campsite. Probably the reason the bugs glowed and were easy to dispose of.

There were 2 cooling tanks that are no longer in use. This sign is referring to them and the changes the accident caused.

more New York memories

The forrests provide a lot of beauty as the leaves change.

While the beauty provided with the changing of the leaves is appreciated, the aftermath is not really something one looks forward to. As seen in this yard, and just think all the leaves are not yet on the ground. Your only hope is for a good strong wind to carry the work away.

The geese leaving the pond at our friends place in New York. The pond is in the trees and well protected from outside influences.

The colors are really starting to change as it gets cooler. A real good cold spell is needed to continue the process.

The pond is about 3 acres and I think it was full several days by view of the flocks we saw landing every night. What you see on the pond is goose feathers.

This fox was across the driveway from our coach in our friends front yard. He finally curled up like a dog in the sun until he was startled. He was around for several days. They have a den in the trees and are in the soy bean fields daily.

Our friends from Northern California came to visit also. Kathy found some stock to take home to her and Harry's ranch. Alas no way to get them on the plane.

Lake Erie & early halloween in New York

The colors continue to brighten.

In both Vermont and New York they start celebrating halloween early. These photos are from 9-28.

We add Lake Erie.

Niagara Falls and more of New York

I was on the way up to the hurricane deck, notice how windy it is.

There is a good reason they call it the hurricane deck - you feel like you have been in a storm when it is really windy and rainy.

This is only part of the climb down from the hurricane deck.

This is a good view of part of the climb. We had not yet reached the blowing water from the falls. we left looking like we had been drenched due to the wind.

This is the Maid of the Mist and all the people preparing to go behind the falls.

some interesting things around New York

We are familiar with dog houses -- but how about calf houses. Things are done differently in the colder climates.
This was the old Lighthouse in Pulaski that was moved into town when no longer used. Now it is part of a memorial.
This lighthouse is for sale. It is on Lake Ontario in Pulaski. Any takers??? It also includes the marina.
Canada seen across Lake Ontatio.
Seems we have fewer neighbors as it gets later in the year . This was in Pulaski N Y.
