Palo Duro State Park TX

This truck was parked in the campground we stayed at in Amarillo TX.
The following are all part of the Palo Duro State Park near Amarillo. It is touted as the Texas Grand Canyon. While it is pretty and you can drive through it, I don't believe it holds a candle to the Grand Canyon in AZ.
This is the old building that housed folks who tried to settle here.
This is a replica of a dugout used by Col Charles Goodnight when he was here to settle the area.

Painted Desert, Petrified Forest & into Albuquerque

Beauty and flowers can even be found in the desert. This is part of Crystal Forest in the Petrified Forest.
Soooo! They are serious about keeping you safe.
This is known as Agate Bridge. The tree is petrified and forming a nice little bridge.
Puerco Pueblo ruins were built about 1250 and may have housed 1200 people. They have stabilized one of the 100 rooms of this pueblo.

Petroglyphs at the ruins.
Several views of the Painted Desert.

These formations are know as the Tepee's due to the shape. They are layers of blues, purples and grays due to the iron, carbon, manganese and other minerals in the grounds.
One of the logs in the Crystal Forest. There was a lot of amethyst and quartz crystals in the logs that over time people have stolen. The stones really make the trees beautiful.

Painted Desert is really an awesome place to see.

Some decorative work of a local store using crystals and petrified tree pieces.
This man was walking through the parking lot with the bird on his shoulder. He allowed me to take a photo of them.
Balanced rocks as we waiting for the chance to end up on the road.

We spotted a rock climber while out on a drive in the New Mexico desert.
Soda Dam was made by centuries of calcium & carbonate deposits from a spring that bubbles to the surface. It is 300 ft long, 50 ft high & 50 ft wide at the bottom. It also has natural caves these people climbed into explore.

jemez State Monument is of a village of Giusewa and occupied by the ancestors of the Jemez Indians before the Spanish arrived in 1541.

One of the many flowers (cactus) that were in bloom along our desert drives.
Barb looking at the ruins of Tuzigoot. A Southern Sinagua village from 1125 to 1400's.

The old western town of Jerome that is enjoying a renewed life due to tourism.
One of the sights on the old road drive to Jerome. Mt Floyd is in the distance.
The cut through the mountain. It dropped down into an old mine area then into Jerome AZ.

Barb enjoying the Grand Canyon and a few more shots of the canyon.

From Ca to AZ the summer travels begin

Leaving CA--clouds and sprinkles bid us good bye.

Into AZ and the beautiful blue sky. Little did we know this would be the start to some strange weather. We saw this house in AZ on the way to Kingman for the first night on the road.
2nd day and on to Williams. The Gateway to the Grand Canyon is an old western town founded in 1881. Rain and clouds soon turned to snow.

1955 Crown Vic in Williams reminded us of one we had in our early years. Ours was Maroon and white. This was in downtown Williams.
When it snows there is not internet or TV due to snow on the dish so we took a quick trip to the canyon.
This is the only time I hope we see the coach in snow. It was totally unexpected. So we took a drive to the canyon.

The lake at the bottom of the Grand Canyon has a neat bridge across it.
Clear sky and elk was what we found in the canyon.
