Interesting Canadian things we happened across

heading for Canada and it is raining again. This is truly the Winter of our Summer.
These old buildings were near the airport in later photos below.
Appears to have been an old gas station, note the pump on the right side with glass top.
The following hotel was built in 1908 so I would think the other buildings may be from near that time as well.
It is now like a B & B with a coffee shop, dining room etc. It is beautifully redone.

This was an interesting compound we ran across. It appears to be a castle sort of house and fencing. But an interesting object in the yard--a shuttle.

The castle type buildings and fencing.
The shuttle note as you enlarge the photo there is an air conditioner on the rear portion. I don't think that was stock on the ones we sent into space.
One of the many rushing creeks from all the melting snows.
The bumper of the pick up has a sign that says "Toughest Truck in America" so is he pushing the big rig in front of him??? I think not!
This marmot and it's family had taken over the underside of an old church.
The old Murray church from 1876 in one of the small towns along the way. The cemetery surrounds the church.
You have to be careful taking a drive as you often find all sorts of animals in the roads.

This was the road ahead as we were going through the mountains in BC headed toward Kamloops.
Lots of melting snow in the Rockies resulting in many waterfalls.
We often run across interesting things we question and have no answers for. Like why the bear looking over the mountain.
This was the gate of a small airport and the runway is in the next photo.

Washington and on to Canada

interesting roots from a life tree in the rain forest.
Another wonderful snow covered mountain.
the creek under the suspension bridge Bil and I crossed below. It was built in 1912 -and since rebuilt. This was part of a day trip to Vancouver while in WA.

a neat old barn in a field of flowers
Mt Baker out of Ferndale WA
blessed by lots of colorful flowers all around us - how great is our God.
gas pumps of the old gas station in the next photo - In Galvin WA

An old church we ran across - the bell was brought around the horn from Boston in 1857.

This was typical of the buildings in Ferndale WA. - it is a very Dutch area.
This sign goes with the photo below and the governor and the treaty.

Eugene OR and Mount St. Helen's

The steam is venting from deep in Mount St Helen's.
This lake was formed after debris blocked the area and left Spirit lake behind.
a nice day to see the mountain
Looking at the mountain you can see the area that was blown out-if you form a triangle using the sides of this mountain you can see how much dropped away. They said about 90% slid down and the rest was blown in the air and landed for miles around.

this truck was facing the volcano and about 5 miles away- it now stands in the yard of a restaurant on the way to the mount as a reminder of the destruction
this was what was left from the eruption and devastation to trees -they splintered and were broke off at varying heights
one of the falls caused by all the melting snow
some elk seen along the way to Mount St Helen's
Sunset in our park in Eugene OR.
This bear was doing some fishing in someone's yard.
The train bridge is still in use and we caught it with the train coming through it.

one of the bridges on the tour was a swinging bridge-one miss step and into the river-very wet, cold and swift
These little goslings were all over the RV park we stayed in while in Eugene OR.
another beautiful flower (wild iris)found along the way
this tree is covered in moss so thick it looks white
still in the winter of our summer--more rain and clouds
this van was in a parking lot of a restaurant-it is completely covered with eagles of all sorts
Bil driving through one of the covered bridges
another of the covered bridges on the tour
more wild flowers along the route
finally a clear or almost clear day-later the same day we had more rain
