Fort Assinniboine

This fort was established in 1849 to protect the settlers of the area. It became quite large but the troops never saw major action.

This was the brig used for the keeping the soldiers in line or out of the main population if the got out of line.

Officers quarters were fairly nice for the time.

This is the original sign of the fort. Notice the spelling is different. The translation from original language was not correct, however the military chose to keep the wrong spelling.


These are some of the out buildings. of the 100 + there are only a handful left. The locals used the parts for their own homes as they were building after the fort was abandoned.
