some interesting things through Vermont

We saw a couple of signs that you don't see just anywhere. This one and a bear crossing sign but I was not quick enough to get it on film.

Sometimes you see interesting things in peoples yards. This appears to be rock stacks around the pond.

We stopped at Ben and Jerry's ice cream factory. Took the tour and tried the new ice cream- American Pie. It is the one that used to be Apple Pie from several years ago.
These are some of their contented employees.

This was a neat round church from the 1812. Originally 5 denominations shared the church as not any one could afford to build their own. As the town grew each denomination moved out to build their own churches.

The pulpit is original and the organ is circa 1825.

This grafitti was on the inside of one of the pews. At that time each family purchased a pew box. This is from 1912 some young man and his girlfriend.

The church dedication sign.

High Gorge Falls has a drop of 700 feet. It was beautiful to walk around and over.

added last New England state & headed west & south

We added Vermont and viewed the colored foliage before heading west to see our friends in New York then south before it gets to cold. So the following colors are probably as good as it gets. We have been told that another three weeks and there should be full color. Time does not permit since we need to be in Canandaigua by the end of the week. Enjoy the colors with us by clicking twice on the photo to make it larger.

Salem Massachusetts

The House of Seven Gables was restored to it's original condition. This house was the inspiration for Nathaniel Hawthorne's novel of the same name.

Just a neat old church in Salem.

The witch museum shows how the people were accused and hung for being witches. All on say of some young girls that were board and started rumomrs. There were 19 people hung. They were either accused of being a witch or for speaking out for them.

The Friendship Salem sets by the old dock.

The Custom house sets across the street from the dock. It was the one used for shipping into Salem. When a ship was spotted a Customs officer met the ship at the docks an collected the taxes before anything was off loaded.

Plimoth Village

Plimoth Rock

The Mayflower II. The ship is a recreation and shows how small and crowded the conditions were. There were 102 people and with animals as well it was very crowded.

This is the inside of an Indian home (tent) made of wood, mat and bark.
Exterior of the Indain home. The bark is purchased from lumber yards in the area and has to be replaced as needed usually every ten years. Pieces may have to be changed as needed but at the end of the ten years they burn them down and move to a new location.

This is Plimoth village as it would have been in the 17th century.

These ladies are in period dress. They speak and work in that period also. Here they are gathering droppings for fertilizer for the crops.

sights in/around Boston

Jackie came to visit, so we took a tour of Boston in a :Duck" and Sven was our tour guide. This was a good way for an overview of the city and to see where we would want a closer look later.

This is like the amphibious Duck we rode in. you tour the land then we went into the Charles River, it was great fun. The guide encourages you to quake at people on the street when he gives the signal. The Duck is old military vehicles from WWII. There were 40,000 made and now 30,000 are used as tour buses all over the USA.

The above two photos are of just one of the sights this is a unique expansion bridge. It is the Leonard Zueker Bridge crossing the Charles River. There are two spans like this holding up the bridge.

This is taken from on top of the bridge.

adding 3 states and lobster for dinner

An overcast sky created a beautiful picture on the ocean.

Lobster pots washed up on the beach due to the strong storm winds from the hurricane aftermath. If you enlarge the photo you can see more down the beach. Some still had bait others had deceased lobsters.

Bill went deep sea fishing and caught 4 Bluefish. The biggest fish was about 28 inches long and about 7 - 10 lbs. He gave them to someone on the boat.

We went for a drive to Maine and stopped at a farmers market. There was a man selling fresh lobster so we invited 2 about 2 lbs each home for dinner.

We are adding Massachusetts, Maine & New Hampshire. We are staying in Salisbury Mass. About 7 miles from New Hampshire & 40 miles from Boston. And yes we are having rain again.

way past restoration plus the bay

The above ship was brought in for restoration, however in the process they found it was past the point of help. There was to much rotten wood. So they put it on display in the museum to show what can happen without proper care and maintenance.

Isn't this the picture of a perfect lake, just like glass. This is Mystic Bay.

This is the shuttle you can take across the bay or to the other end of the museum.

Beautiful Mystic Bay from the ship restoration area.
