When Francis Scott Key saw the flag still flying when the air cleared he was inspired to write what is now our national anthem. He saw the flag from a distance of 8 miles away while on a ship. The flag is 40 x 32 and can be seen at a great distance. See the signs (double click and read them). The replica we unfurled is the size of the one flying on that morning. The battle lasted 25 hours and the British retreated.
Baltimore was successfully defended in the War of 1812 from Fort McHenry
due to the number and placement of the cannons they were able to hold off the British
note the size of the opening between Bill's hands. The cannon balls were 2o inches in diamiter and about 200 lbs
