Dease Lake YT to Hyder AK & Stewart BC

The Glacier Inn is a local bar and restaurant that has money from all over the world on the walls. people write on the money and have it applied to the walls. There is about $80,000 on the walls.

Below is the hotel this plaque speaks of.

It would appear you would not want to leave your vehicle parked to long. Or perhaps they do not waste anything including old vehicles.

This building was a storehouse built in 1896 by the corpse of engineers. It has been used for shops as well as a jail over the years.

logging is one of the main means of a lively hood in this area.
an old deserted house and out house in Hyder AK.
The town used to have buildings built on the pilings/piers, now all that is left is the pilings. The town was built further inland.
This is a single lane bridge leading to the docks. It has very well worn ruts for the tires.

This as one of the avalanches we saw across the mountains in the Hyder /Stewart area.

The marshland allows opportunities for all sorts of growth. This little fir tree is growing out of an old piece of root from a dead tree. The bridge in the rear is the end of a walkway across part of the marsh.
a sampling of some of the wild flowers we saw everywhere we went.

We actually did enjoy other animals than the bears. Some Canadian geese in the marsh area.
Parental ducks and babies.
This Blue jay was sitting in a pond near the bears fishing grounds.
a butterfly just setting or posing for a photo.
The road to a dam so we could see some salmon headed upstream. But there were none.

This is the dam we walked to so even though there were no salmon, the walk was not in vain. The bear took time from eating to scratch it's ear.
He was a big boy and stayed around for a while eating and chasing salmon.
A rather large salmon was served or I should say caught for lunch. Take a look at those nails.
A trip over the edge and inheritance can be collected. That is Bear Glacier in the rear.
Bil trying to hang on in the wind in fromt of Bear Glacier. Notice how blue the glacier is.

The melting of the snow/glacial ice left a neat tunnel you could a walk under.
One of the Alpine meadows with a pond seen if you take a short walk over the mountains.
Another view of the alpine meadow with all the flowers.
This is only a portion of Salmon Glacier, it is impossible to get it all in one photo as it curves and goes down another mountain.
Bil in front of Salmon Glacier, I was on the mountain above and across the road for this view.

Salmon Glacier is the 5th largest glacier in Canada.
This was a lake and it melted breaking up the glacier above causing flooding below that took out a road and did other damage. The lake is already reforming.
This is the road area that has to be repaired, Since there is a mine on the other side they are working 24/7 to get the road fixed.
The road construction utilizes the rock in the neighboring mountains to shore up both the road and around power poles so they are not undermined again.
The glacial water is really neat when the silt settles, it leaves these ponds.
Another neat day to go exploring.
Wild horses tend to stop traffic no matter how big the vehicle.
The soil is very shallow and the wind and toot rot cause the trees to fall over.
